Killington, VT -- Top names on the national music scene will be taking the stage for six free outdoor shows this summer as the Town of Killington announces the second annual “Cooler in the Mountains” free concert series presented by Long Trail Brewing Co. Performances are scheduled for every Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm from July 23 through August 27 at K-1 Base Lodge at Killington Resort and will support the greening efforts of Reverb non-profit organization which educates and engages musicians and their fans to take action toward a more sustainable future.
“We are excited to bring such an outstanding lineup of musical talent to the mountain this summer - it’s a perfect complement to our endless outdoor activities and world-class special events,” says Seth Webb, Killington’s Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “We’re also delighted to do all of this for a good cause and build on our repetition as an environmentally-conscious destination.”
Brian Walsh, President of Long Trail Brewing Company, says partnering with the Town of Killington on a green-themed concert series is a perfect avenue to promote his company’s commitment to the environment. “Long Trail has been committed to an environmentally-conscious business philosophy since we started over 20 years ago. This event gives us a perfect venue to promote the benefits of our ECO-Brewing practices and provide a memorable Vermont experience for residents and visitors alike.”
The musical acts have been scheduled to complement and coincide with various special events taking place in Killington this summer, like the Killington Wine Festival, The Spartan Beast Race, and Circus Smirkus, among others. The list of performers includes Sean Kelly – founding member of The Samples – at the Killington Wine Festival; Jimmy Buffet’s protégé and tour opener Ilo Ferreira during the Eastern Cup Mountain Biking Competition; Sublime tribute band Badfish after the Spartan Beast Race; Vermont’s own Twiddle during the Gravity East Downhill Mountain Bike Competition, and Florida-based alternative rock band Sister Hazel to wrap the series.
Each week, Reverb will activate its Carbon Offset Program, which allows fans to offset their carbon footprint by making a small charitable donation. On August 20th when Dirty Dozen Brass Band takes the stage, the Reverb Eco-village will descend on Killington to offer activities aimed at raising awareness of alternative and renewable energy sources. Environmental non-profit groups will help educate concertgoers about the steps they can take to reduce their footprint, and all-natural and organic food producers will sample their products. Killington Resort will present an interactive display to inform guests about how it integrates green practices into its snowmaking and customer service operations.
A beer garden, outdoor grill and outdoor lawn games will accompany the live music, and guests are encouraged to bring lawn blankets and chairs to enjoy the scenic views. Guests at each concert will also be invited to register to win a 2011-12 Killington Season Pass (no purchase necessary), which will be given away at the conclusion of the concert series. For visiting music fans, Killington resort will be offering special lodging packages in conjunction with the concerts. For more information visit, www.discoverkillington.com.
The concert series is produced by the Town in conjunction with the Killington Chamber of Commerce and IZSTYLE. The events are sponsored by Long Trail Brewing Company, Killington Resort, IZSTYLE, Casella Waste Systems Inc. and the Town of Killington.
