VERMONT HOLIDAY FESTIVAL RETURNS TO KILLINGTON DECEMBER 9 AND 10

Posted on December 02, 2011

Killington, VT --  The Vermont Holiday Festival returns to Killington on Friday and Saturday December 9 and 10 with its glittering Festival of Trees, the magic of Santa’s Workshop, and a bustling schedule of activities and musical performances.  The Grand Ballroom at the Killington Grand Resort Hotel will be transformed into a winter wonderland as 100 uniquely decorated holiday trees fill the venue with the sights and scents of the season.  Now in its 7th year, the annual event is produced by the Killington Chamber of Commerce.

“We are thrilled to be back at the Killington Grand Hotel for this year’s event,” says Killington Chamber spokesperson Jillian Bourgholtzer.  “The room is beautiful, the views of the mountain are spectacular, and the location is ideal for sleigh rides.  It all makes for a truly magical setting.”

The centerpiece of the Vermont Holiday Festival is the Festival of Trees, featuring a unique collection of one-of-a kind Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and raffled off at the conclusion of the festival.  Festival attendees may purchase raffle tickets throughout the weekend for a chance to win their favorite tree.  Raffle tickets are sold at the cost of $10 for 25 tickets or $5 for 10 tickets.  Winners are drawn during the fun-filled Festival Finale Saturday night at 8pm.  This year, tree sponsors will compete to win the honor of Most Popular Tree and walk away with a paid chamber membership.

Children are invited to attend Santa’s Workshop, which will be hosted at multiple times daily.   Each workshop is one-hour long and includes a handcrafted toy, a Christmas story reading and a visit from Santa and his elves.  Admission to Santa's Workshop is an additional cost of $10 per child.  Workshop times on Friday are at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm; and on Saturday at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 5pm, 6pm and 7pm.  No pre-registration is necessary.

Live musical performances from area school groups include Killington Elementary School, Rutland Town School, Barstow Memorial School, Bridgewater Elementary School and the Rutland Youth Theatre.  In addition, the Central Vermont Women’s Barbershop Chorus Maiden Vermont will also make an appearance.  Other features of the festival include the Jack Frost Marketplace -- a holiday shopping component featuring local artisans and vendors -- free horse-drawn sleigh rides and free refreshments.

Admission to the Vermont Holiday Festival is $5 for adults, and free for children ages 5 and under.  Festival hours are Friday, 4:30 – 9pm; and Saturday 12Noon – 9pm.  A portion of the proceeds from this year’s Festival will benefit the Vermont Food Bank.  The Vermont Chamber of Commerce named the 2011 Vermont Holiday Festival a favorite Pick for Kids.

In addition to the activities at the Vermont Holiday Festival, guests may enjoy skiing and snowboarding at Killington, the largest ski and snowboard resort in eastern North America. With the most extensive snowmaking system in North America, Killington typically offers two to three times more open terrain than most resorts in the East by early December.
