Vermont Covered Bridge Driving Tours

8 Covered Bridges
Driving Time: 2 hours, 15 minutes (without stops)
80 miles total

  • From Killington, follow route 100 north through Pittsfield. (11 miles)
  • In Stockbridge, as road forks & route 100 turns left, you will go straight onto route 107.  Stay on route 107 through Bethel and Royalton.  (13.5 miles)
  • Turn right on route 14 south. (3.5 miles)
  • In South Royalton, turn left on route 110 north towards Tunbridge.  (11 miles)
Tunbridge has five covered bridges (all listed on the National Register)

Howe Bridge (1879)— South of Tunbridge Village at Belknap Road
Cilley Bridge (1883)— southwest of Tunbridge Village (off Howe Lane from VT 110)
Mill/Hayward/Noble Bridge (rebuilt 1999)—in the Village, on Spring Road
Larkin Bridge (1902)— North Tunbridge on Larkin Road (off VT 110)
Flint Bridge — North Tunbridge on Bicknell Hill Road (off VT 110)

Tunbridge also has two other structures are individually listed on the National Register:

Hayward & Kibby (or Hayward & Noble) Mill — on Spring Road in Tunbridge Village
South Tunbridge Methodist Episcopal Church

  • After following VT 110 11 miles, turn left at East Randolph Road. (3.3 miles)
  • Continue onto Chelsea Road. (3.5 miles)
  • Turn left at VT-14 south.  (10 miles)
You will see 3 covered bridges, all off VT-14 south in Randolph. 

Kingsbury Bridge (1904) — on Kingsbury Road off 14
Gifford Bridge (1904) — on Hyde Road off 14
Braley Bridge (1909) — off 14

  • In Royalton, turn right onto route 107 west. (13.5 miles)
  • In Stockbridge, you pick up route 100 south and continue back to Killington. (11 miles)

  • From Killington, follow route 100 north through Pittsfield (11 miles)
  • In Stockbridge, stay on main road as route 100 turns left.  You will stay on route 107 through Bethel & Royalton.  (13.5 miles)
  • Turn right on route 14 south. (3.5 miles)
  • In South Royalton, turn left on route 110 north towards Tunbridge.  (27 miles)

While on 110, you will see five covered bridges.
Howe Bridge (1879)— South of Tunbridge Village at Belknap Road
Cilley Bridge (1883)— southwest of Tunbridge Village (off Howe Lane from VT 110)
Mill/Hayward/Noble Bridge (rebuilt 1999)—in the Village, on Spring Road

Flint Bridge — North Tunbridge on Bicknell Hill Road (off VT 110)

  • In East Barre area, you will pick up route 302 West/North.  Take this to Montpelier. Just after turning onto 302, you will be in the area of the Rock of Ages Granite Quarry. (5 Miles)  Off route 302 is the Robbins Nest Bridge (private, rebuilt in 1960s).
  • In Montpelier, at traffic circle, take 2nd exit onto route 2/River St. (2 miles)  Take this to route 12 in the center of town. If visiting downtown Middlebury & the state house, turn right onto 12 north/main street.
  • On your way back, follow route 12 south, entering Northfield. (8 miles)

The Town of Northfield has six covered bridges, four of them located in “the Falls” on the northern edge of town. On Cox Brook Road are three covered bridges in close proximity.  (Upper Cox Bridge, Lower Cox Bridge & the Northfield Falls Covered Bridge).  Slightly below these bridges on Route 12 South is the Slaughterhouse Bridge.

  • Follow 12 south through town (3 miles)
  • Take a right onto route 12A south.  (20 miles)

In two miles, turn right onto Stony Brook Road to see the Moseley Covered Bridge.  Further down Stony Brook Road is the privately owned Chamberlin Bridge. After seeing bridges, return to 12A south.

  • In Randolph, continue on route 12 south. (10 miles) You will go by the Porter Music Box store.
  • In Bethel, turn right on to route 107 west. (8 miles)
  • In Stockbridge, you pick up route 100 south and continue back to Killington. (11 miles)
  • In Royalton, turn right onto route 107 west. (13.5 miles)
  • In Stockbridge, you pick up route 100 south and continue back to Killington. (11 miles)
