KILLINGTON, Vt:  The official 2010 Census may show that Vermont’s growth has slowed to a crawl, but for nearly a week in January, Killington will catapult from a laid-back resort town into the spotlight of the east coast as it welcomes nearly 25,000 guests January 20 – 23. The transformation comes complete with a new public transit service, mountainside festival village, national television coverage and bigger-than-ever half-pipe, all compliments of the Winter Dew Tour, Killington Resort and the Town of Killington.

“The Town of Killington and Killington Resort look forward to hosting people who may be experiencing our community for the first time,” said Suzie Dundas, Events and Media Coordinator for Killington Economic Development and Tourism. “We’re going to be showcasing what a great place Killington is to live and play and encouraging guests to come back often. Everyone is working hard to ensure that the week goes smoothly for residents, athletes and spectators alike."

Athletes, visitors and production personnel will be descending on Killington for four days of competition in January. In preparation for the national event, the Winter Dew Tour, Killington Resort and the Town of Killington are working with local businesses to make Killington as welcoming and accessible as possible for the winter sports enthusiasts expected in the region. Key among new offerings for that weekend are a Dew Tour spectator guide to be distributed in early January, and a multi-route public transportation system.

“We’re going to have convenient public transportation available to take people from locations throughout town to Bear Mountain,” Dundas said. “Buses will run continuously during the event from the Killington Access Road, various base areas and lodging facilities across town. In conjunction with the Dew Tour and Mountain Times, we’ll distribute the transportation schedule and map throughout town and on various websites in advance of the tour to make transportation easy and convenient.”

The Winter Dew Tour in Killington will also feature a massive Festival Village to be hosted at Bear Mountain Thursday, January 20 through Sunday the 23rd. The Village will include sponsor demos and activities, giveways and contests, athlete signings, winter movie viewings, and much more. For the first time in Winter Dew Tour history, this year’s tour also features a 22-foot halfpipe at all three locations and will be broadcast live on NBC and NBC International.

The Winter Dew Tour makes three stops each season. This year’s competitions take place at Breckenridge, CO, Killington and Snowbasin, UT, with top athletes like Torstein Horgmo, Jamie Anderson and Louie Vito taking top honors at the first stop December 15 – 19 in Breckenridge. The competition will heat up in Killington as athletes attempt to collect points in competitions like Ski Superpipe and Snowboard slopestyle. Whichever athletes have the most cumulative points from both Breckenridge and Killington will be in the strongest position to take the top honors heading into the finals – Killington will be the place to “to big or go home” as athletes jockey for standing before the last leg of the tour mid-February at Snowbasin.

The Winter Dew Tour in Killington will feature four days of events and competition, with highlights including…

–        Slopestyle and Superpipe practice Thursday at Bear Mountain

–        Men’s & Women’s Snowboard Superpipe preliminaries Friday at Bear Mountain

–        Dew Tour Kick-Off Concert Friday evening at the Wobbly Barn
